Now that we’ve become accustomed to, and are enjoying, amore laid-back lifestyle while also being aware of excessive fashion consumption, the appetite for quality staples that will stay relevant and last the distance is high on the fashion agenda for most people this year. Enter And/Or’s spring collection, which launches this month and is packed full of well-cut basics andmood-boosting buys to enhance the everyday andmove seamlessly fromday to night or o ce to weekend. The in-house brand fromJohn Lewis launched in 2017 with a key focus on bringing high-end quality denim to the high street. Turning to the denim capital of the world – Los Angeles – the brand collaborated with still influenced by that carefree Californian mentality, it’s e ortless dressing. When it comes to denim, the retro bootcut jeans, £75/each, sit comfortably alongside a 70s-inspired A-line skirt, £59/each, a frilly hemmed ru e denimdress, and a cool all-in-one denim jumpsuit, both £79/each. All And/Or jeans are sustainably resourced – using a blend of organic cotton, recycled polyester and Lycra – giving it planet-friendly credentials, too. The range champions individuality and this can certainly be seen in the considered finishes on its products. Think ru e details, statement collars and prints, giving everyday essentials a feminine flourish. “At And/Or we stand for individual style, a love of unique design detail, a sense of fun in howwe use colour and print,” says Emma Cullen, Partner and womenswear designer for John Lewis. There’s a sprinkling of prints across the range, fromfierce leopard in a softer colour palette, whimsical blooms and grown-up gingham reminiscent of warm sunny days spent lazing in the park. “And/Or dresses and boho blouses are e ortless and ultra-feminine in signature statement prints or unique pops of colour. SS22 is all about escapism. “Our colour palette reflects nature’s beauty and all the simple sparks of joy around us,” adds Emma. And as we’re in themidst of January blues, we could all do with a little joy right now. The And/Or collection is available at johnlewis.comand in John Lewis stores LA-based denimexperts Caroline Calvin, previously senior vice president of Levi’s and Joie Rucker, founder of Joie, to bring that authentic, easy-going Californian vibe over the pond. Although denim remains at the core of the line – you can find the LA influence in the styles of jeans which are named after iconic spots such as Silver Lake and Abbot Kinney – And/Or has since evolved into a bigger line of contemporary separates that up the ante on your combo of jeans and a nice top. The spring collection boasts boho blouses, crochet knits and 60s-inspiredmini dresses for a nod to timeless nostalgia and springsummer 22 catwalks, which sawmaxi dresses depart and hemlines get shorter.
